Song For Pluto is an experimental short film about love and loss. The film is silent and set against the music of Arvo Part. It is a subjective, non-linear told story about a man’s moment of bliss in finding love and family and the personal anguish and questions with which he struggles. A short film that documents a mother’s frustrating determination to teach, parent and mold her child in her own likeness and the eventual connection she finds from potential tragedy. A young couple re-unite to find that their childhood friendship has blossomed into a beautiful though now complicated love. Charlie is seventy-five and has just lost his wife of forty years. Alone, anxiety-filled, he has isolated himself in his home. Even his children and grandchildren cannot seem to bring him back to his old self. A sudden heart issue causes Charlie to find something to relax. He remembers his wife’s interest in reading and goes to the library where he discovers a reading group to read the great books and to “Meet the World.” Through the books like The Odyssey, The Divine Comedy, and Don Quixote, where he imagines himself in these stories with the characters in them.
